Phase A Test – February 2015

The Krav Maga Phase A Test is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25, 2015, from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM. Test review and make-up classes are scheduled for February 21 and February 22 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Please be sure to attend classes during the month of February to prepare physically and mentally for the test. Make-up testing will be considered on a case by case basis.

Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is coming to Krav Maga Santa Cruz

World renowned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black-belt Garth Taylor, owner of Kaijin Mixed Martial Arts in Santa Cruz, will be teaching Jiu Jitsu at Krav Maga Santa Cruz three days a week. Current Krav Maga Santa Cruz Athletes can enroll into Jiu Jitsu for $35.00 a month. Cross-training in Jiu Jitsu is strongly recommended. Phase A – October Test

Congratulations to our Phase A Krav Maga Athletes on a grueling three months of training in both CrossFit and Krav Maga. The Phase A Test is scheduled for October 29, 2014, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Family and friends of Krav Maga Santa Cruz Athletes are welcome to attend this special event. The next Phase A class will begin in mid-November, 2014. Be sure to sign up at CrossFit Amundson. One month of training at CrossFit Amundson is required before enrollment.

Summer Phase A begins in July

Welcome to the Krav Maga Santa Cruz Phase A summer class. Phase A meets Monday and Wednesday nights from 7:15 to 8:00 PM. Training includes KravFIT conditioning workouts, combatives, Self Defense and Weapon Defense training, as well as the development of the Warrior Spirit. In October 2014, Phase A practitioners who missed no more than 5 classes will be eligible to test for Phase B.

Phase A will include:

Elbow Series 1 – 7
Footwork
Straight Punches
Straight Kick and A Frame Kick
Knee Strikes
Handgun Defense Rear
Long-Gun Defense Rear
Stick Defense Baseball Swing
Self Defense Against Standing Chokes – Front, Side, Rear

In addition to Personal Defense, Phase A will include a heavy emphasis on KravFIT workouts, and the development of a durable, resilient and strong body and spirit. A pre-reequite for enrollment into Phase A is three months of CrossFit training at CrossFit Amundson.

Beginning in July 2014, Krav Maga Santa Cruz and CrossFit Amundson will be teaming to create a “Four Phased Training Progression” for our Krav Maga program. Based on a program developed by Greg Amundson during his service with the United States Army 223 Infantry Regiment at the United States Army Officer Candidate School called “Krav-Fit”, the Phased Progression will allow Athletes to progress through four grades of rank in a combined Krav Maga and CrossFit program. Phase A begins the first week of July 2014. If you are NOT a current CrossFit Amundson and Krav Maga Santa Cruz member, you must first enroll into CrossFit Amundson and successfully complete at least one month of dedicated CrossFit  training. September will be a very exciting and challenging month at Krav Maga Santa Cruz! We are honored to welcome Amber Campion and her practice of Yogaeira to our studio. Amber will be teaching Yogaeira on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM and on Sunday evenings from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. Due to the demand of Krav Maga training in Santa Cruz County, we have opened up our Monday and Wednesday Krav Maga Classes to the public on a case by case basis. Enrollment normally requires at least three months of training in CrossFit at CrossFit Amundson to ensure adequate levels of physical conditioning have been achieved. Our Law Enforcement Seminars and training continue by reservation from the Defensive Tactics Coordinator at the respective Law Enforcement Agency.

These grueling Evolutions, include a pool session as pictured above, tested the mental, physical and spiritual strength of the SWAT Applicants.

Greg Amundson – Army Officer Candidate School Graduation Address -19AUG2006

On behalf of CrossFit Amundson, a very special thank you and salute to all of our brothers and sisters who have served our Country in the Armed Forces. This year marks Greg Amundson’s final year of service in the US Army. Greg served as a Platoon Leader in the US Army 649th Military Police Company and as a Platoon Trainer and Instructor of Combatives, Leadership and Fitness (US Army TAC Officer) at the California Military Academy and 223rd Infantry Regiment. Greg will finish his career as a Captain and recipient of the US Army Commendation Medal for successfully training over 100 Officer Candidates and US Army Lieutenants during his service at the California Army National Guard Officer Candidate School in Camp San Luis Obispo, California.
