Krav Maga Knife Defense

At Krav Maga Santa Cruz, student-participants are referred to as “Athletes” and instructors as “Coaches”. One of the primary goals of Krav Maga Santa Cruz is to inspire you to consider yourself an Athlete. For many people, this simple paradigm shift alone creates immediate positive change in their lives.

Training at the gym is conducted in a relatively informal setting. Athletes and Coaches wear Krav Maga Santa Cruz training shorts and shirts. Training is conducted in a positive and uplifting manner. Language is very important to the experience of the Krav Maga Athlete. Verbal instruction, cues, and the points of performance are always instructed in the positive tense. Our training naturally increases self-esteem, personal belief and courage.

Classes at Krav Maga Santa Cruz are one hour long. Following a dynamic warm-up, Athletes participate in a workout which incorporates combative elements with traditional fitness skills such as Pull-ups, Rope Climbs, Hurdle-Jumps, Kettlebell Swings and Assault Bike sprints. Workouts are designed to improve fitness while simultaneously building muscle-memory and retention of self-defense and fighting techniques.

Following the workout, a specific Krav Maga technique is introduced. We purposely teach Krav Maga specific skills after the Athlete has experienced mental and physical fatigue. This forces both the Athlete and Coach to focus on the points of performance in the skill, such as balance, accuracy, line of action and timing. Krav Maga teaching drills are used to aid in the retention of the technique under stress.
