"So One May Walk In Peace"

What is Krav Maga?

What is Krav Maga?

After a long day of work, you are walking through the parking lot to your car. Just as you open the door, someone approaches you from behind and puts a knife to your throat. You respond swiftly and aggressively, defending yourself, controlling the weapon, and neutralizing the attacker. This is Krav Maga!

Krav Maga is the official self defense and fighting system of the Israeli Defense Forces. Krav Maga emphasizes easy-to-learn techniques that have been battle-tested in life threatening confrontations.

Krav Maga is a street-oriented self-defense program that is favored by Federal, State and Law Enforcement Agencies across the United States and World. Krav Maga is characterized by a logical and coherent approach to self defense that enables one to achieve a relatively high level of proficiency within a short period of instruction.

The Basic Premises of Krav Maga

As emphasized by the founder of Krav Maga, Mr. Imi Sde-Or, the basic premises of Krav Maga are:

1) “Remain Safe” In order to remain safe, we start by achieving a high level of physical fitness and proficiency in combatives and self defense. We also develop a winning mindset and learn to evaluate our surroundings for danger. We maintain a position of advantage at all times. A high level of fitness also allows one to escape a violent situation or come to the aid of others.

2) “Be Humble and Modest” A Krav Maga practitioner never boasts about their skill and does everything possible to avoid unnecessary conflicts, both physical and verbal. Krav Maga teaches people how to overcome their ego and to control their mental state, so they will not fail you during a life threatening confrontation. Krav Maga will inspire you to encourage others and to “walk humbly”.

3) “Act Correctly” Krav Maga teaches people how to do the right thing at the right place and the right time. This also means to act with integrity and do what is right, even when no other person is watching. Your physical and mental state dictates your ability to handle a confrontation. Krav Maga teaches you how to make full use of your abilities, and take full advantage of the elements and conditions that prevail in your surroundings.

4) “Walk in Peace”  Krav Maga is a journey, not a destination. To walk the path of a Krav Maga practitioner means to bring peace to others and to promote a peaceful resolution to all confrontation, both physical and verbal. “To Walk In Peace” also means having the courage, based on your physical and mental abilities, to live the life of your dreams and to pursue worthy goals both inside and outside the gym.
